CISS attend UN GA 2010

At the 65th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Sayed Fadhil Bahrululoom (Director of CISS) and Sajad Jiyad (researcher) attended several sessions of the General Debate and parallel sideline meetings and events.

The assembled world leaders discussed several key issues such as economic reform, world development, environmental sustainability and regional security. CISS was in attendance as a guest of the Iraqi delegation and was seated for the important speech of US President Obama amongst other leaders, as well as the Iraqi President Talabani. The reason behind CISS attending UN meetings is part of the international engagement portfolio of the Centre and is opening doors for more representation of Shi'a Muslim organizations on the international diplomatic and political scene.

CISS is scheduling programs at future major UN events such as the UN ECOSOC CSW 2011 (Commission on the Status of Women) amongst others which will include the statements submitted by the Centre that are distributed to the various nation members, affiliate bodies of the UN and prominent NGO.
