On Saturday evening, June 12th 2010, the CISS invited academics, publishers and affiliates to its annual dinner, held in Behesht Persian Cuisine, London.
The purpose of the dinner was to thank all those who have been supporting the CISS since its inception in 2007 but also to launch its bioethics book and the CISS Press. 2009 and 2010 have been important years for the CISS because several projects have come into fruition form academic papers and books to marketing and UN attendance. The dinner aimed to celebrate these achievements as well as launch its future projects.
Sayyid Fadhil Bahrululoom welcomed the guests and launched the book, ‘Islamic Metaphysics in Bioethics: Animal-Human Experimentations’, written by Dr. Sibtain Panjwani and Imranali Panjwani. Many believe that animal-human material can cure diseases but there is an equally vocal minority that believe this is based on little research and blurs the identity of a human being. The publication focuses on the metaphysical perspective of human beings and how this sheds light on humanity’s purpose. The CISS also launched its Press which is now accepting book and research proposals. All proposals can be sent to info@shiastudies.org.uk
After the welcome and launch, guests were treated to a lovely Persian dinner with delicious fruit afterwards. Amongst those in attendance were Dr. Andrew J Newman (University of Edinburgh), and Lynn Gaspard (Editor, Saqi Books) as well as several members from the Iraqi, Khoja, Pakistani and Lebanese communities. The dinner was enjoyable and lively and the CISS would like to thank all those who attended.
Finally, to purchase the new bioethics book or submit proposals for research, please visit the CISS website: www.shiastudies.org.uk. It is also available from www.amazon.co.uk
