'It is notoriously difficult in bioethics to bring religious perspectives -- with their notions of soul, spirit, transcendence, createdness, divine purposiveness, and so on
-- to bear authoritatively on empirically scientific perspectives, or even on modern philosophical perspectives. While this contribution may not actually achieve a narrowing of that disconnect, it does offer vital insights from Shi‘a thought which open up promising possibilities for informed and mutually attentive dialogue.'
